The Simple Truth about Self Doubt

April 22, 2009

Doubt. Now that is one ugly word, especially during unpredictable times. Why we succumb to it is pretty obvious. What we can do to overcome it, is not. I wake up most days full of hope and energy. This morning, I even had a list of resources to research and things to do and was as gung ho as you can be at 5:30 in the morning. I grabbed my coffee (bear with me, I’m getting somewhere), did my 15-20 minutes of meditation, wrote and recited my goals and armed with optimism and a to-do list, I started to tackle my tasks. All of a sudden, this venture I’m creating became overwhelming, bigger than life! There’s so much I need to learn and do before I can even begin! This is going to take an army of geeks, not to mention lawyers, accountants, FedEx drivers. Help! I need an admin! rossycrosseyed2

Calm down, girl, I told myself. You just need to connect the dots one little number at a time. And so I did. I connected them right into Internet Backgammon where I spent about 20 minutes getting the crap beaten out of me because 1) I was totally distracted and 2) the computer plays favorites. I know. It’s in the roll of the dice!

I finally did get back to the tasks at hand. Actually, I got back to thinking about the tasks at hand and realized that a very simple proposition had turned into a massive undertaking. And it hadn’t even left my head yet! Has this ever happened to you? It happens to me a lot. Ideas just grow out of proportion and when there’s no way to contain them, I just let them go. That makes sense sometimes, but not others. I guess the real wisdom is in keeping things simple. The best ideas are always the simpler ones; the ones you go “Now why I didn’t I think of that?” because duh, it was obvious. So, I’ve decided to go back to the drawing board and continue my research into the next great big simple idea that will make the world go Duh!!!. I also thought I’d give you a break from my very long-winded posts.

What about you? Do you have any overwhelming stories to share? I’d love to hear them. Come on, don’t be shy!
